About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator position at the Bradford County Road Department involves skilled operation of various heavy machinery for highway maintenance and construction. The role is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient use of equipment owned by the county, under the supervision of the Road Supervisor.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid Florida Driver's License class 'B' (preferred).
• Minimum of one to three years related experience in heavy equipment operation.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of Bradford County Road System is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate large bulldozer for clearing and grubbing rights-of-way and grading roadway materials.
• Use large road grader for grading roadway shoulders and reshaping ditches and back slopes.
• Operate hydra scoop for digging and clearing ditches and cutting down slopes.
• Utilize front-end loader, backhoe, track hoe, tractor, side blade, batwing mowers, forklifts, road packer, dump truck, tractor-trailer, chipper truck, and other smaller equipment as needed.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and maintain maintenance records.
• Ensure serviceability and cleanliness of personal protective equipment required for equipment operation.
• Attend scheduled safety meetings and maintain attendance at assigned duty location.
• Perform additional duties as assigned under the Public Works Department.
