About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator is an entry-level role focused on the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical transmission systems. This position involves working at various locations and may require travel to different states based on customer demands. The operator will perform essential functions related to overhead work, including stringing wire, setting poles, and assisting with the installation of electrical components, while ensuring safety and compliance with company policies.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of minimum experience.
  • Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License permit within 60 days of employment (Commercial Driver's License preferred).
  • Able to travel long distances on short notice when required.
  • Able to work for extended periods in various locations when required.
  • Able to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Willing to work overtime when requested and outside of the normal work schedule including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead work.
  • String overhead wire.
  • Set poles and anchors.
  • Assist with installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
  • Assist in replacing fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits and systems.
  • Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
  • Perform rigorous physical labor.
  • Understand proper use of company radio and operation of heavy equipment.
  • Learn basic knowledge of materials used in line work and identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
  • Assist with the installation and hook up of a single-phase transformer.
  • Perform basic bucket rescue/escape and understand equipment setup and grounding.
  • Work at heights and/or in confined spaces, and understand minimum approach distance.
  • Check voltage on transformers and understand flag and tag procedures.
  • Install and remove a service, and inspect rubber goods and PPE.
  • Work outside frequently in inclement weather and glove/work high voltage transmission lines.
