About The Position

Tessera is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator Lead to support essential operations at the United States Air Force Academy. This role involves hands-on work in runway and street sweeping, snow removal, solid waste collection, vegetation control, cargo movement, and other exterior maintenance tasks. Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in heavy equipment operation or related field
  • Ability to interpret and apply department policies and procedures
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Comfortable using computers and entering data into operational systems
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and proper use of PPE
  • Ability to train others and perform spot checks for quality assurance
  • Capable of responding calmly to safety and security incidents
  • A valid state driver’s license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera’s insurance.
  • Access to a federal military installation requires a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or an acceptable alternative, such as a U.S. passport or military ID, in accordance with the REAL ID Act.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access.
  • A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Heavy Equipment Operator Certification preferred
  • CDL Class B preferred

Responsibilities

  • Operate and support daily equipment functions including sweeping, snow removal, waste collection, vegetation control, and cargo movement.
  • Coordinate and guide a crew of personnel to meet contract performance standards.
  • Coordinate and lead a team of heavy equipment operators and truck drivers to execute snow and ice removal operations
  • Conduct spot checks and implement corrective actions to ensure quality and safety across all tasks.
  • Track and maintain vehicle and equipment readiness through scheduled maintenance systems.
  • Submit accurate operational reports including training, timekeeping, attendance, and incident documentation.
  • Train employees on job procedures, safety protocols, and equipment use in alignment with USAFA standards.
  • Monitor performance and assist with evaluations, coaching, and accommodations for all team members.
  • Support environmental compliance, safety enforcement, and collaboration with USAFA personnel and agency partners.
