About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator II position involves the operation of heavy equipment, dump trucks, water trucks, motor graders, and/or truck tractors for the repair, maintenance, and construction of the 1500+ miles of roads, streets, and trails on the Yakama Reservation. The incumbent will perform routine preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and may also engage in manual labor/tasks associated with the maintenance, repair, and construction of roads, roadways, and appurtenances. This role requires a higher degree of skill, judgment, and more extensive experience in operating various types of heavy equipment compared to a Heavy Equipment Operator I.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience in operating heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License with Class A Commercial Driver's License certification or qualifications to obtain one within probationary period.
  • Ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Tribal Driver's Permit.
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate for assigned duties.
  • Effective audio and visual discrimination and perception for successful performance of duties.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational, Technical certification or OJT certification in heavy equipment operation and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Operate various types of heavy equipment for maintenance, repair, and construction of roads and appurtenances.
  • Perform gravel and grading of Yakama Nation roads, cemeteries, and tribal member driveways.
  • Conduct snow removal of all roads and bus stops.
  • Replace catch basin filters and sweep Yakama Nation streets and housing projects.
  • Install new parking areas and replace delineators as needed.
  • Communicate with the Transportation Superintendent, Supervisor, and Lead regarding project needs or issues.

Benefits
