About The Position

The Heavy Equipment Operator I position at Oklahoma State University involves skilled operation of various types of heavy equipment for facilities management. The operator is also responsible for servicing equipment, ensuring compliance with digging permits, and being available for emergency standby duties outside of regular hours.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
• Two years of experience in operation of heavy equipment in construction or agricultural industries.
• Valid driver's license and Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at time of hire.
• Ability to read, write, and follow oral instructions.
• Proficiency in using 'AiM' Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and mobile technology.

Responsibilities

• Operate backhoe to expose utility breaks or install new utility lines.
• Operate end loader to back fill ditches or load trucks.
• Operate sand spreader to control ice and snow on streets and parking.
• Grade surfaces with box blade.
• Drive dump truck and operate street sweeper.
• Operate yard crane to load or unload large pieces of equipment.
• Service equipment and advise foreman of needed repairs.
• Ensure digging permits are properly completed prior to digging.
• Provide routine labor to support projects as assigned.
• Be on rotating standby for emergencies and/or events after 5 p.m. on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
• Work overtime after 4 p.m. when required and shift work when necessary.
