About The Position

Repairs and maintains heavy construction equipment and other company vehicles, including dump trucks, bulldozers, rollers and backhoes. Will be required to diagnose and repair MOW railroad equipment such as tie cranes, spikers etc. Performs work in accordance with manufacturers' specifications, company standards and safety standards. This position requires regular regional overnight travel. Time will be divided between jobsites and shop in Carlinville, IL. The Mechanic must live within approximately 60 miles of Carlinville, IL or be willing to relocate before starting the position.

Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years' experience in the skilled mechanical repair of construction equipment.
• Ability to read and understand procedural instructions and manuals.
• Ability to keep accurate records.
• Ability to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work in shop and field environments.
• Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work being performed.
• Must pass background check.
• Must provide professional references.

Responsibilities

• Operates and inspects machines or heavy equipment to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment failures.
• Tests mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications.
• Dismantles and reassembles heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
• Adjusts and repairs ignition, fuel, electrical, hydraulic and steering systems.
• Maintains and repairs chassis, frames and bodies.
• Repairs and maintains diesel and gasoline engines.
• Maintains and repairs tires, batteries, brakes and valves.
• Assists with inspections and safety checks.
• Travels to field locations to provide repairs or maintenance.
• Prepares detailed maintenance and repair records.
