Peraton is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for the Deep Space Network (DSN) program in our Fort Irwin, CA location in support of NASA/JPL. The Deep Space Network is NASA's international array of giant radio antennas that supports interplanetary spacecraft missions, plus a few that orbit Earth. The DSN also provides radar and radio astronomy observations that improve our understanding of the solar system and the larger universe. The antennas of the Deep Space Network are the indispensable link to explorers venturing beyond the moon. They provide the crucial connection for commanding our spacecraft and receiving their never before seen images and scientific information on Earth, propelling our understanding of the universe, our solar system and ultimately, our place within it. This position reports to the Facilities Supervisor and functions under general direction. The successful candidate performs a variety of overhaul and repair of industrial heavy-duty equipment.

  • Performing all manner of heavy equipment operation, maintenance and repair including front end loader, backhoe, road grader, dump truck, forklifts, truck tractor/trailer and manlifts, skid-steer, service truck and heavy trailers.
  • Performing roadwork such as grading, packing, Asphalt patching and crack-sealing.
  • Performing preventative maintenance on industrial diesel engines, power generation system and facility heavy equipment in accordance with manufactures procedures and recommendations.
  • Performing rebuilds/overhauls and repairs on the facility's industrial diesel engines, Propane generators and facility heavy equipment.
  • Performing routine maintenance and inspections on all site heavy equipment.
  • Responsible for maintaining maintenance records on site and in organized manner for State regulations on diesel engines and equipment.
  • Responsible for researching and ordering needed parts and equipment for repairs and rebuilds on all heavy equipment.
  • Responsible for inputting work order status and information into the sites maintenance tracking and management system (MAXIMO).
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • BS 0-2 Years or HS 6-8 Experience must include diesel engine systems, maintenance, repair and overhaul.
  • Knowledge of computer programs such as Excel, MS Word is required.
  • Must possess and retain a valid California Driver's License (Real ID) as well as a Commercial Class A or B License.
  • You are able to obtain a trusted background check and pass a National Criminal Information Check (NCIC).
  • In order to obtain a clearance, you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.
