About The Position

Akima Facilities Operations is looking for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, MRAP to work in Fort Hood, TX. To join our team of outstanding professionals, apply today! The Heavy Equipment Mechanic analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, pneumatic tools, and tracked/wheeled vehicles. This worker operates and inspects machines or equipment to diagnose defects, dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and hand tools, examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges, replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, and tests overhauled equipment to insure operating efficiency. The mechanic welds broken parts and structural members may direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment, and may repair, adjust and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines. This Mechanic must be specialized through education and experience in a military combat system which would include Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and apparatuses. Work involves most of the following: Responsibilities Heavy Equipment Mechanic, MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required, replacing worn or broken components on both capsule and systems that support MRAP vehicles. Educating and providing oversight to non-specialized mechanics to ensure quality services and repairs. Requires well rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent. Qualifications 5+ years maintenance experience in a required combat systems (MRAP). Operator level knowledge of system capabilities and procedures to operate MRAP systems. Experience in U.S. Army maintenance procedures and AR 750-1. Ability to pass Pre-Employment Drug Test and Background Screening. Ability to receive a favorable Tier-1 Investigation and obtain/maintain a CAC. High School Diploma / Equivalent. Work environment includes periodic overtime, exposure to heat, dust, cold, and inclement weather conditions. Requirements

  • 5+ years maintenance experience in a required combat systems (MRAP).
  • Operator level knowledge of system capabilities and procedures to operate MRAP systems.
  • Experience in U.S. Army maintenance procedures and AR 750-1.
  • Ability to pass Pre-Employment Drug Test and Background Screening.

Nice To Haves

  • 7+ years maintenance supervisory experience.
  • US Army MOS 91/63 series qualification.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Commercial Driver License with Passenger Endorsement preferred.
  • ASE Certified preferred.
  • HVAC EPA Tech Cert 608/609.
