About The Position
The Heavy Equipment / Crane Operator position at Watco's West Memphis Terminal is a critical role responsible for the transloading of bulk and break-bulk materials. This position requires the operator to work directly in various operational settings, including barges, gondola cars, and warehouses, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of materials. The operator will primarily utilize a Friction Crane, Forklift (Taylor Lift), Skid Steer, and other heavy equipment as necessary. The role demands a strong commitment to safety and operational excellence, as the operator will oversee the general management of equipment and facility operations at the terminal. In addition to operating heavy machinery, the operator is responsible for performing preventative maintenance on equipment, which includes lubricating, cleaning, and checking fluid levels. The operator must also document all maintenance activities performed daily. This position requires a proactive approach to safety, as the operator must ensure the safety of all teammates and equipment during operations, especially when vessels are in motion or when materials are being loaded or unloaded. The operator will assist the existing Crane Operator and may be required to operate forklifts and drive work trucks throughout the port facility. The role may involve working extended hours and weekends during peak fertilizer season, emphasizing the need for flexibility and a strong work ethic. Regular attendance is essential to perform the essential duties of this job effectively.
