The Heavy-Duty Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy construction vehicles and equipment. This position may supervise apprentice workers engaged in vehicle and equipment repair work.
Responsibilities
Inspect heavy vehicles and equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
Proficient with CAT ET/ Cummins INSITE/ Volvo Prosis and TechTool.
Proficient with emission after treatment, DEF dosing systems troubleshooting and repairs.
Knowledge and experience with diesel EGR systems on class 8 truck and off-road equipment.
Proficient in powertrain disassembling/assembling and failure analysis.
Adjust, repair, and replace engines, fuel systems, hydraulic and electrical systems, brakes, suspension, steering, and transmissions.
Disassemble and assemble vehicles and equipment parts using hoists, hand tools, pneumatic and electric tools, and instruments.
Proficient with reading and understanding electrical and hydraulic schematics.
Proficient at cutting and installation of equipment and vehicle glass.
Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including lubrication and oil changes in accordance with maintenance schedules.
Operate vehicles and equipment to diagnose and ensure operating efficiency.
Clean and maintain equipment, tools, and the general work area.
Prepare and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
Supervise apprentice workers engaged in heavy vehicle and equipment repair work.
Support AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.
Other duties will be assigned to this position as needed.
Requirements
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
A valid (U.S issued) Driver's License is required.
A North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification is required.
The ability to work 84 hours a week on a 2x2 or 3x3 rotation is required.
At least five (5) years of related training and experience repairing heavy construction vehicles and equipment such as but not limited to: Bulldozers, Dump-trucks, Front-end Loaders, Motor Graders, Tractor-trailers, Vac-trailers, Water-trucks, Scrapers, Aerial lifts, and hydraulic rough terrain Cranes from Grove, Link-Belt and/or Tadano is required.
Nice-to-haves
Five (5) or more years of experience working as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic in the Oil and Gas industry, on the North Slope, and/or in the Arctic environment is preferred.
Five (5) - ten (10) years of experience working on Caterpillar and Volvo heavy equipment as well as Cummins engines is preferred.
A valid (U.S issued, Alaska compliant) Class A CDL is preferred.
A current DOT Medical Card is preferred.
