About The Position

Big Country Equipment is a BC-based heavy equipment service and repair company that works with resource-based customers in the construction, forestry, mining, and oil and gas sectors in Western Canada. Big Country Equipment was formed in 2017. We have grown rapidly from a one-truck operation to over 100 employees and a fleet of over 30 fully equipped service trucks, serving customers throughout Western Canada 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We are seeking self-starters who are career-minded, ready, and willing to get the job done safely and positively, and who can work professionally with both coworkers and customers. This job is available in BC, and we have many other locations we are looking after across Canada. We primarily serve open-pit and underground mining and construction operations.

Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of recent experience working in the field, preferably working out of a service truck, working with off-road construction and mining equipment.
  • Mining-industry experience is required.
  • Must be a licensed Heavy Duty Equipment Technician.
  • A Red Seal is required.
  • Solid experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting.
  • Be proficient in English, both verbal and written.
  • Have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Provide a minimum of 2 direct supervisor references.
  • Pass a Criminal Record check.
  • Provide a clean 5-year driver’s abstract.
  • Pass an 8-panel drug test (including marijuana) and an alcohol breath test.
  • Be able to lift 50 lbs. comfortably.
  • Not seeking sub-contractor roles (we are not offering subcontractor opportunities at this time).

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred machine brands include Hitachi, Komatsu, CAT, and John Deere.
  • Experience with surface drills is considered an asset.
  • Experience with electric and hydraulic shovels is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair various types and brands of heavy equipment and shovels.
  • Utilize computerized and other testing equipment to determine repairs and create detailed service reports.
  • Transmission and drive-train repairs: repairing or replacing transmission components, differential gears, and drive shafts.
  • Interpret and complete both scheduled and unscheduled work orders.
  • Contribute to the ongoing reliability of all heavy equipment and ensure compliance with preventive maintenance requirements.
  • Test repaired equipment to verify proper maintenance.
  • Make recommendations for repairs and improvement methods.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, site regulations, and company policies.
  • Maintain up-to-date certification and training as required.
  • Arrive at work fit for duty each day.
