This position involves troubleshooting, repairing, reconditioning, and servicing Caterpillar and other Empire allied machines, systems, and power train components within a shop environment. The role requires diagnosing malfunctions and failures of electrical, hydraulic, and power train components using electronic tools, schematics, and other troubleshooting methods. Effective communication is essential to explain equipment conditions, machine status, and recommendations to clients, associates, and management. Additionally, the role includes maintaining good client relations, supporting corporate marketing objectives, preparing service reports, planning and controlling repair job costs, and maintaining company equipment in good, clean, and orderly condition. The mechanic is expected to work safely at all times, adhere to all applicable safety policies, and comply with company policies, procedures, and standards. Further responsibilities include owning and maintaining personal tools, learning and utilizing Empire, Caterpillar, and allied product procedures and systems, maintaining current MSHA card if required, providing on-the-job training, making warranty recommendations, and communicating effectively to clarify instructions or discuss job progress. Overtime and travel to remote locations may be required.
