About The Position

The Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Electrical Program Faculty position at Parkland College is a full-time, tenure-track role responsible for providing classroom instruction, mentoring students, and participating in departmental governance. Faculty members will teach a variety of courses related to HVAC and electrical systems, engage in curriculum development, and contribute to student recruitment and retention efforts. This role requires collaboration with the department chair and other faculty to ensure high-quality education and adherence to college policies.

Requirements

  • AAS plus 5 years of experience in HVAC installation/service, single phase power distribution, transmission systems, and motor control circuits, or equivalent education and experience.
  • 608 Refrigerant Handling certification.
  • Ability to learn Parkland information systems and new programs as technology changes.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check with fingerprinting.
  • Commitment to obtain an AAS degree or higher in a related field prior to tenure if not already earned.

Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom instruction in accordance with the college's philosophy and objectives.
  • Conduct academic assessment and program evaluation.
  • Inform students of course regulations and prepare course syllabi.
  • Teach courses during day, evening, and weekend based on needs.
  • Utilize nontraditional delivery methods for courses.
  • Maintain regular office hours for student consultation.
  • Advise and mentor students effectively.
  • Maintain accurate scholastic records and submit reports on student progress.
  • Participate in student recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Department Chair to design and update course curriculum.
  • Engage in departmental governance and curriculum development.
  • Assist in recruiting and mentoring adjunct faculty.
  • Participate in college-wide shared governance and committees.
  • Engage in professional development activities.
  • Assist with external relations and community engagement.
  • Monitor adherence to safety codes and departmental policies.
  • Stay updated on trends and innovations in the field.
  • Foster a collegial and collaborative work environment.
