About The Position

Penn State is searching for a full time Heating and Ventilating Technician - Grade 3 to join the team. Duties include servicing, maintaining, repairing, and replacing domestic and commercial heating and ventilating systems and auxiliary components. The technician will also install and maintain chilled water air conditioning systems and related controls, as well as combination heating and air cooling systems. Additional responsibilities include inspecting, maintaining, and repairing building heating supply and return lines, adjusting building and room controls, and ensuring proper operation of heating systems. The technician will also service and maintain air handling equipment, dampers, converters, radiators, and humidification systems, and may direct the work of lower grade employees and apprentices as required.

Requirements

  • 2 to 3 years of effective experience
  • Valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check

Responsibilities

  • Service, maintain, repair, and replace domestic and commercial heating and ventilating systems and auxiliary components
  • Service, maintain, repair, and replace controls and sensing devices necessary for the proper operation of heating and ventilating systems
  • Install and maintain chilled water air conditioning systems and related controls
  • Install and maintain combination heating and air cooling systems and related heat controls
  • Service, maintain, and replace chilled water coils
  • Inspect, maintain, repair, and install building heating supply and return lines
  • Adjust building and room controls to maintain prescribed temperature on heat and re-heat systems
  • Inspect condensate stations to ensure proper operation of heating systems
  • Inspect, clean, repair, calibrate, and install condensate meters
  • Service, maintain, repair, and install air handling equipment
  • Service, maintain, repair, and install dampers and their drives
  • Service, maintain, repair, and install converters, radiators, radiation units, and coils
  • Install and maintain filtering and trapping station in pneumatic air supply lines
  • Make temporary repairs to oil burners and systems
  • Assist oil burner mechanics as necessary
  • Install, maintain, and repair humidification systems equipment
  • Work with lead technician on complicated repairs or on construction of new or special units
  • Direct the work of lower grade employees and apprentices as required
  • Operate motor vehicle as required
