The Heater’s primary responsibilities include accurately identifying and charging slabs in the correct location, as well as heating steel slabs in accordance with established company practices and procedures. Incumbents will be expected to heat slabs to predetermined temperature parameters to ensure the final product meets Oregon Steel Mills quality standards and customer requirements. The starting wage for this role is $30.00/hour with monthly incentive bonus opportunities. Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures and Safety Policies are followed. Verify slab identification matches the rolling line up, maintain proper tracking of slabs, verify identification of each slab charged and visually inspect each slab charged into the furnace. Closely monitor temperature from slabs in the heating process and exiting the furnace and adjust the furnace temperature accordingly to maintain proper slab heating and scale formation. Perform visual inspections on each slab discharged from the furnace. Conduct daily inspections of the furnace components (doors, walls, hot spots, etc.) and corresponding support systems (hydraulics, recuperator, damper, water systems, gas train and combustion equipment etc.). Maintain production log hourly and record all delays. Properly identify and record all runbacks, scratches or lineup changes. Notify the appropriate authority of any equipment or slab problems. Assist in maintenance and all rolling mill areas during equipment down time. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or equivalent Qualified crane operation experience preferred KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES Self-starter with excellent written and oral communication skills. Good math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Detail oriented with high level of accuracy. Ability to work in an environment with fluctuations in heat and humidity and exposure to fumes, odors, dust and noise. Willing to learn and able to retain and apply new knowledge. Adaptive and flexible to accept changes in job duties. Ability to use basic hand tools: wrenches, screw drivers, tape measure and torches. WORK ENVIRONMENT Environmental conditions: protected from weather conditions but not from temperature changes Outside environmental conditions: no effective protection from the weather Hazards: includes such physical conditions, as proximity to moving mechanical parts/vehicles, electrical current, exposure to high heat or to chemicals PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Light work: exerting up to 20 lb. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lb. frequently Our total compensation package includes amazing benefits!
