This role may require working alongside higher grade operators during the training phase. The primary responsibilities include working from shop routers, specifications, and detailed instructions to heat treat and/or age a wide variety of steel and aluminum aircraft parts. The heat treating operations encompass processes such as annealing, tempering, and normalizing. In this role, you will set up and operate heat treat equipment, including generators, infraanalyzers, atmospheric control tempering furnaces, and vacuum furnaces. You will be responsible for inputting the sequence of events in the work center console and selecting and positioning parts in racks based on size, shape, alloy, and quantity to be heat treated. Maintaining accurate records on various aircraft parts, including date, time, dew point reading, temperature, and lot number, is also a critical aspect of this position. Additionally, you will utilize precision measuring instruments such as hardness testers and simple hand tools, including wire cutters, while operating power hand drills, power hoists, and material handling equipment like hand-operated forklifts. Close mental and visual attention to indicator gauges regarding temperature and atmospheric conditions in furnaces during the heat treatment process is essential. You will be responsible for the quality of your own work and may perform other related duties as required.
