About The Position

Heat Treat Technician The Heat Treat Technician is responsible for performing heat treatment processes, equipment calibration, and metallurgical evaluations to ensure materials meet required specifications and quality standards. This role includes monitoring thermal cycles, documenting results, and determining acceptance or rejection based on established procedures, codes, and industry standards. Technicians are qualified to set up and operate heat treatment equipment, including furnaces and quenching systems, and to interpret process data such as time, temperature, and cooling rates. The Heat Treat Technician must have a strong understanding of material properties, heat treatment methods, and the limitations of various processes while maintaining strict adherence to safety and quality requirements. Heat Treat Technicians may also assist in training junior personnel and ensuring proper execution of procedures in the field or shop environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening (DISA or equivalent)
  • Completion of site-specific safety training as required
  • Demonstrated ability to safely and effectively perform heat treatment operations
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and calibrate heat treating equipment including furnaces, burners, and temperature control systems
  • Perform heat treatment processes such as annealing, normalizing, quenching, tempering, and stress relieving
  • Monitor and document heat cycles, including temperature, soak times, and cooling rates
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, specifications, and customer requirements (e.g. API, ASTM, ASME)
  • Conduct hardness testing and verify metallurgical properties after heat treatment
  • Identify material defects or inconsistencies and determine acceptance or rejection criteria
  • Maintain accurate records of heat treatment processes and inspection results
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety standards and site-specific requirements
  • Perform equipment maintenance checks and troubleshoot process or equipment issues
  • Assist in training and mentoring entry-level technicians when required
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management
