This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. As part of a hard working team of technicians, you will be responsible for the thermal processing of a wide range of aerospace hardware for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of heat treatment and pyrometry including: Assisting with specification, procurement, and installation of equipment Operation and maintenance of vacuum furnaces, sub-systems, and ancillary equipment Assisting with process documentation and controls Performance of Pyrometric testing and certification of vacuum furnace equipment This position provides tactical and technical support to Engineering/Production/Manufacturing by performing activities such as design, test, check-out, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype electro/mechanical systems, experimental design circuitry, laser/light transmission devices, or specialized test equipment. Applications may include electronic circuits, photonics, and logic systems. Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts, or defined plans to perform testing, checkout, and troubleshooting functions. Performs operational tests and fault isolation on systems and equipment. Assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions. Assists in the design, construction, test, and check-out of test equipment. Uses manufacturing, test, development, or diagnostic equipment, including, but not limited to, test programs, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and specialized test apparatus.

Requirements

  • Passion for our mission and vision: Millions of people living and working in space!
  • Minimum of 3 years of aerospace vacuum thermal processing experience.
  • 2 years technical college – or a minimum of 5 years on-the-job training working with vacuum heat-treating furnaces
  • Must have an understanding of vacuum system fundamentals and operation
  • Experience thermally processing aerospace materials such as stainless steel, copper, nickel, and cobalt alloys, titanium wrought alloys, casting, and additive manufacturing.
  • Familiar with pre and post-process testing such as hardness testing
  • Familiar with performing vacuum furnace preventative maintenance
  • Strong written and personal computer skills
  • Safety committed & conscientiousness
  • Background/ familiarity with Calibration and pyrometry (AMS 2750 & AMS 2769)
  • Physically able to climb ladders and stairs and lift and carry 50 lbs. for limited durations.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ of aerospace vacuum thermal processing experience
  • Experience performing post-process testing such as hardness, alpha case, and mechanical testing
  • Experience working with: Materials engineers to design, test, and document heat treatment and brazing processes
  • Design engineers to specify braze joint designs, braze alloy selection (Ni and precious metal base), and process development
