About The Position

Oversee heat treat operations, lead the heat treatment team, ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, and maintain equipment. Provide leadership and oversight to the Heat Treat Department by leading the daily operation of all processes including hardening / tempering furnaces, generators, and all associated equipment while maintaining production requirements and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Certification, AS or higher education level in metallurgy or related area of study.
  • HS Diploma / GED required.
  • 5 years of work experience in heat treat operations, preferred.
  • Prior experience operating under CQI-9.
  • Leadership related training and experience.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership, communication skills, and technical knowledge of metallurgical processes.
  • Possesses excellent written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office and Google Suite skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with Fontana / Acument Heat Treat management system, CQI-9 and customer specific requirements.
  • Ensure all activities are completed in regards to process controls, process parameters, customer requirements, and scheduling.
  • Responsible for corporate level requirements and communication, including Heat Treat Maintenance Management.
  • Manage the review of vendors and certificates including, but not limited to, quench oil, temperature uniformity survey, system accuracy test, thermocouples, and instrumentation.
  • Perform verification and/or verify requirements are met per Heat Treat Responsibility Matrix.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and support the correction of issues that arise.
  • Meet productivity goals as measured by pounds, pieces processed, and/or OEE within the area of responsibility.
  • Train employees, troubleshoot production issues, interpret heat treat data to meet specifications, and coordinate employees and equipment to meet production schedules.
  • Provide required training based on corporate level requirements, customer demand, lessons learned, and verify effectiveness of training.
  • Manage plant specific work instructions including communication and training of new/revised work instructions to all applicable personnel.
  • Continuously identify opportunities for process improvement and implement changes, as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of heat treating activities
  • Responsible for departmental continuous improvement activities.
  • Responsible for performance reviews and disciplinary counseling as required for Heat Treat employees.
  • Represent department/plant during monthly Heat Treat meetings.
  • Responsible for departmental safety and housekeeping as well as 5S.
  • Responsible for Heat Treat scheduling and coordinating with Production Leadership for vacation and weekend overtime.
  • Other duties as assigned.
