About The Position

The Heat Treat Operator is responsible for setting up and operating various types of equipment used in the heat treatment of metals. This includes furnaces, quench systems, flame-hardening machines, and electronic induction machines. The operator must determine the appropriate types and temperatures of quenching media required to achieve specified hardness, toughness, and ductility of the parts being treated. This role requires a thorough understanding of heat-treating charts, methods, equipment, and the properties of different metals. In addition to operating machinery, the Heat Treat Operator must monitor and assess their own performance as well as that of others to identify areas for improvement or corrective action. Adherence to API and quality standards is crucial, as is compliance with corporate and departmental policies, procedures, and specifications. The operator will also be involved in level 1 maintenance, preventative maintenance, and the 5S methodology to ensure a clean and organized work environment. The role requires the operator to enter and validate data both manually and through computer systems, ensuring accurate record-keeping. Safety is a top priority, and the operator must adhere to OSHA safety standards and departmental lockout/tagout policies. The position also involves operating overhead and floor cranes, forklifts, and scissor lifts, as well as working in confined spaces for equipment maintenance. The Heat Treat Operator will report any discrepancies to the department supervisor and perform all other tasks as assigned.
