As a Heat Treat Operator at Komatsu, you will play a crucial role in the manufacturing process by monitoring heat treat furnaces and quenching equipment to alter the physical and chemical properties of metal parts and gears. This position requires a keen attention to detail and a strong understanding of heat treatment processes, particularly in the context of controlled atmosphere IQ furnaces. You will be responsible for ensuring that the heat treatment process is executed efficiently and safely, contributing to the overall quality of the products produced by Komatsu. Your primary responsibilities will include preparing and stacking loads for entry into heat treat furnaces, monitoring the furnaces during operation, and making necessary adjustments to the furnace controls to maintain optimal conditions. You will also set up and operate die-quenching machines to prevent warping of parts, ensuring that all adjustments to the quench press are made as needed. Daily operational checks will be a part of your routine, and you will be required to complete burn-out logs for both the furnaces and the generator. Safety is paramount in this role, and you will be expected to adhere to all safety rules, wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and follow the 6S standard for workplace organization and cleanliness. In addition to technical skills, you will need to be proficient in using overhead cranes, hoists, and tow motors to move and position parts effectively. The ability to read micrometers and depth gauges is essential for ensuring the precision of the heat treatment process. This position is based in a union facility and operates on the 2nd shift, with the possibility of shift changes in the future. While overtime is not mandatory, it will be available regularly, providing opportunities for additional hours if desired.
