Under general supervision, perform a variety of heat-treating functions in altering the physical and mechanical properties of ferrous and nonferrous metals following established safety and operating in accordance with quality standards. Ensures that documentation, parts are correctly matched to paperwork. Makes up Heat Treat loads following published procedure by placing items to be heated in rack or basket following detailed instruction on technique cards or other department paperwork while maintaining production requirements. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Follow established housekeeping and safety practices to maintain the quality of the work environment under general supervision. Must demonstrate the ability to complete all departmental paperwork in fine detail and explain the logic of all phases. Demonstrate ability to log on main computer system, extract information, log time, enter inventory amount and forward to next operation. Works under general supervision and guidance following established company practices and process procedures. Completes work sheets from accompanying paperwork and/or main computer system documentation and specifications for required heat treating. Counts parts before thermal treating; racks parts, furnaces, and identifies loads. Verifies proper function of furnace including temperature, time and ancillary equipment. May participate in scheduled survey of equipment function. May transport finished pieces to next operation station after paperwork is completed. Assists in preventative maintenance of furnaces and associated equipment. Reviews own work for completeness and quality workmanship standards. Records and process data on production document, on time, associated with the specified work performed. Possess basic understanding of instrumentation and controls. Maintain control of shop/lot integrity and meet all production and quality standards. Possess able to correctly and safely light up and shut down furnaces. Understands instrumentation and controls and be capable of setting furnaces for procedures as set up by supervisor. Possess the ability to read, understand, and follow heat treat procedures as set up by heat treat code. Demonstrate prudent use of furnace time. Understand principle and operation of dew pointer and accurately take readings and make necessary adjustments. Understand principle and procedure of hardness tester and accurately take readings. Demonstrate leadership ability, set good examples for the rest of the department and maintain delivery schedules. Possess the ability to basically run the department efficiently with a minimum of outside assistance. Possess the ability to make cost analysis for decision making, and exercise good judgement to Increase productivity and decrease scrap and rework. Must have no violation of safety rules or policies. Demonstrate basic understanding of why heat treat unit works and be able to perform Must demonstrate ability to interpret traveler as to end result of casting and what part heat treat plays in process toward end result. Give full and detailed explanation of blend panel, temperature panel, and oil quench. Define effects of time/temperature/carbon/Oxygen/etc. on hardness/softness of parts. Explain aging, anneal, what part Argon plays, Rockwell & Brinell Test, "HIP", homogenize, overage, quench, soak time, sub-critical anneal, subzero temper, and thermocouple. Turns in all heat treat batch sheets and records no more than 24 hours after the end of a specific recorded period. Attain a working knowledge of the QCPs and OPCs and complete the qualifications including the following. Perform all other duties assigned.
