This role is for a Product Development Engineer to join the team in Danvers, MA, where new ideas and continuous learning are encouraged. The work directly supports technologies that make a difference for patients. As part of a small, collaborative engineering team, the Co-Op will work on next-generation systems, contributing to the design, development, and testing of innovative components in a hands-on, multidisciplinary environment. The position offers the opportunity to take on meaningful technical challenges, learn from experienced engineers, and help drive the development of breakthrough medical technologies, regardless of background in mechanical, electrical, software, or a mix of engineering disciplines. As a Product Development Engineer Co-Op, you will work with a cross-functional team to design Abiomed’s next generation of innovative heart pumps and accessories in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that is disrupting the medical device industry by bringing breakthrough technologies to market. This role will be on one of the various product development teams at Abiomed.

Requirements

  • Undergraduates (sophomore, junior, senior) or graduate students pursuing a degree in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, software engineering, computer science, or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong skills in design, testing, and data analysis are required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future. Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS is preferred.
  • Experience with machining and/or 3D printing is a plus.
  • Prior co‑op experience in the medical device industry is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing components and fixtures.
  • Perform engineering feasibility testing to support design improvements.
  • Execute design verification (DV) testing to evaluate device safety and effectiveness.
  • Conduct root-cause and failure analyses under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Analyze data and present findings to the broader engineering team.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with regulatory, quality, testing, and other key stakeholders.
