About The Position

The Verbatim Hearing Recorder (VHR) position is a part-time role responsible for accurately capturing and typing summaries of spoken content during Social Security Disability Benefits Appeal Hearings. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional listening and typing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. This role is crucial for ensuring accurate records for legal and administrative purposes.

Requirements

  • Ability to operate recording software and computer programs such as MS TEAMS, MS WORD, Adobe Acrobat, Outlook, and Skype.

Responsibilities

  • Attend SSA disability hearings using specialized recording equipment and software.
  • Type spoken content with a minimum speed of 40 words per minute.
  • Maintain organized and secure records of recorded content, ensuring confidentiality and data security.
  • Provide excellent customer service to clients, representatives, attorneys, judges, and other participants.
  • Notify the appropriate contact at OHO of any IT issues during setup.
  • Open the hearing room and start government-furnished recording equipment.
  • Complete a test recording to ensure functionality of the equipment.
  • Arrive on-site at least 30 minutes prior to the first hearing.
  • Initiate contact with the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) via Skype 15 minutes before the hearing.
  • Annotate the digital recording in English throughout the hearing, noting changes of speaker.
  • Dress and carry oneself in a professional manner.
  • Refrain from visible or audible reactions during hearings.
  • Submit close-out documents at the end of the scheduled hearings.
