This position incorporates a split research-clinic audiology role. Approximately 60% effort is devoted to responsibilities as Research Audiologist in the Hearing Research Laboratory, co-directed by Drs. John Grose and Emily Buss. The lab investigates auditory perception and neural processing across the lifespan. Current projects span infant to older adult populations, covering typical hearing development, disorders such as auditory neuropathy, and the effects of aging. We combine behavioral psychophysics, otoacoustic emissions, auditory evoked potentials, and speech in noise paradigms to answer fundamental and translational questions in hearing science. The Research Audiologist oversees the day to day conduct of human subjects studies in the lab, including participant interactions, ensuring the smooth operation of complex protocols and equipment, and upholding rigorous data standards. This role blends hands on testing with project management Approximately 40% of this position is devoted to responsibilities as a Clinical Audiologist with the UNC Hospitals audiology department and involves direct clinical care, based on the current clinical needs and candidate preferences.
