A little about us GVEA is an electric cooperative which maintains 3,292 miles of transmission and distribution lines, 40 substations, and 9 generating facilities. Our system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Fort Greely, the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, and all of the electric utilities in the Alaska Railbelt, extending from Homer to Fairbanks. Your day to day as a Mechanic As a Mechanic at Golden Valley Electric Association, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of all power plant mechanical equipment. Your responsibilities will encompass preventive and corrective maintenance for turbine generators, boilers, fans, pumps, heat exchangers, conveyors, compressors, and more. You'll utilize your troubleshooting skills to identify root causes of failures and propose effective solutions, all while collaborating with outside contractors to meet quality, scheduling, and cost targets. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to train Plant Technicians on mechanical maintenance, sharing your expertise to elevate the team's capabilities. In the course of capital projects, you may also engage in equipment modification, fabrication, and installation. This position may require call-in for emergency maintenance during off-hours, ensuring the continuous operation of our vital services. Your competence in understanding plant and equipment operations will be essential to your success in this dynamic role. Does this sound like you? A welding certification is preferred, as you'll be required to demonstrate your skills by passing a welding test. Requirements
