About The Position

Girl Scout camp is where campers find their strengths and challenge themselves as they navigate activities at the campsite units, in the dining hall, and along the trails. Working at Camp Small Valley is a unique experience that can have a positive impact on you for the rest of your life and your passion can make a difference in the lives of girls! The Healthcare Supervisor is responsible for supervising health and well-being standards for the camp population and facilities in our Girl Scout overnight camp setting. The position manages campers’ and staffs’ health and safety by applying daily first-aid treatments, administering necessary medications, storing medication based on camp property, maintaining records, and logging injuries.

Requirements

  • Minimum age 25+ required.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required.
  • Current Adult & Pediatric First aid, CPR and AED, or equivalent certification required, or ability to complete before start of camp.
  • Experience in both pediatric and adult illness/injury care
  • Proficiency with using any online systems to review records.
  • Attend and complete pre-camp trainings sessions (Mid-June)
  • Willingness to live on camp for the entirety of their assigned camp season
  • Full summer season - Begins in mid-June, about a week before camp is in session, and ends when camp sessions stop usually in mid-August (around a 7-week program)
  • Partial summer season – Required to take part in portions of the training week in mid-June, then required to commit to at least 2 other weeks of camp between June-August.
  • Ability to live and work in the outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to move quickly across the campgrounds. This may include walking from one side of camp to the other (.25 miles) multiple times a day.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards, in various lighting conditions.
  • Ability to quickly respond to emergencies 24/7 when on camp property and follow GSHPA established emergency procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Organize, set up, and operate the Summer Camp Health Center
  • Complete an inventory of necessary medical supplies and equipment.
  • Create and stock First Aid Kits for camp units, meal areas, office, activity areas, and camp vehicles.
  • Complete a health screening of all campers and staff upon arrival, departure, and during the summer
  • Assess medical needs quickly in any health situation or emergency.
  • Conduct a general health inspection of cabins, unit areas, showers, and bathrooms to observe and assess unsanitary or unhealthy conditions of camp.
