Position Purpose:
The Healthcare Reporter is a general assignment editorial position that contributes original reporting and editing of healthcare industry news for HIMSS Media properties, including the Healthcare Finance News, MobiHealthNews, and Health IT News websites and newsletters. The Healthcare Reporter will work with the Executive Editors to create compelling news, features, videos, podcasts and webinars to engage and inform our audience of healthcare and technology professionals, enhancing the reputation of the HIMSS Media brands and adding value to the HIMSS global membership. This position will have no direct reports but may work with freelancers to fill out the website and newsletters.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Media, Communication, Journalism, or English, or equivalent work experience.
• A minimum of three (3) years of related work experience in news reporting and editing. Prior experience reporting on the healthcare industry required, with specific experience in health technology and finance preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and outstanding interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated abilities in various technologies, such as the Microsoft Office Suite of programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
• Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships
• Ability to travel up to 20%

Responsibilities

• Pitch, write and post daily news stories on deadline as well as develop original features and enterprise pieces that are compelling and insightful for HIMSS Media properties.
• Develop and cultivate reliable sources that are subject matter experts in digital health and healthcare finance.
• Monitor primary and secondary sources to track subject-specific news.
• Keep track of trends in the industry and write enterprise pieces that explore or reference those trends.
• Write breaking news stories on tight deadlines as needed.
• Edit freelancers’ and peers’ work to ensure that it is accurate and meets editorial standards and style guidelines. Work with freelance writers to build a solid and reliable pipeline.
• Support the launch of new HIMSS content-based products and services, including multimedia and membership-based content.
• Conduct video interviews over Zoom as well as on-site at events and record podcasts.
• Occasionally, travel to cover events.
