About The Position

Flad Architects is offering a one-year fellowship for recent or upcoming graduates interested in healthcare design and planning. This immersive experience, starting in June 2026, provides hands-on experience under expert mentorship while collaborating with internal disciplines and external clients. The fellowship will be based in either Madison, WI, or Tampa, FL, and focuses on innovative healthcare environments for top-tier organizations. Participants will engage in research, planning, and design, with a significant emphasis on mentorship and collaboration across disciplines.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Architecture with a certification in Healthcare Design or a healthcare-related thesis.
• Master’s degree in Interior Design with a certification in Healthcare Design or a healthcare-related thesis.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited university with completion of a Design and Health program/courses.
• Beginner Revit knowledge required.
• Experience with SketchUp and/or Rhino and 3D rendering software preferred.
• Previous internship experience preferred.
• Sustainability accreditation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the research, planning, and design of innovative healthcare environments.
• Receive exposure to inpatient and outpatient healthcare environments and workflows.
• Be involved in client leadership and user group meetings, patient focus groups, and public meetings.
• Receive mentorship from healthcare planning, design, research, and analytics leaders.
• Collaborate across disciplines to develop holistic problem-solving.
• Focus 65% of time on healthcare project work and 35% on research.
• Work on a year-long research study aligned with Flad’s strategic healthcare initiatives.
• Share knowledge through regular meetings, quarterly updates, and a final presentation.
• Attend two healthcare architectural conferences with expenses covered by Flad.
