The Healthcare Assistant in Guest Services at Sharp Memorial Hospital plays a vital role in delivering quality patient care under the supervision of licensed nurses. This per diem position involves collaborating with an interprofessional team, managing patient data, and ensuring effective communication within the unit. The role requires flexibility in working hours, including variable shifts and on-call responsibilities, to meet the needs of patients and the healthcare team.

  • Collaborates with the interprofessional team in the delivery of quality patient/resident care under the direction of a licensed nurse.
  • Delivers care with consideration to populations served including age-specific needs/care.
  • Functions as the coordinator of communication for the unit and assumes primary responsibility for medical record management.
  • Facilitates patient data management through transcription, order entry, and documentation.
  • Supports best use of resources in management of equipment, supplies, and other department resources.
  • Greets and makes welcome a variety of customers by telephone and in-person.
  • Obtains information from visitors/callers, directs as appropriate or takes complete and accurate messages.
  • Answers call lights within four (4) rings or calls into patient rooms to validate requests.
  • Coordinates with physicians and department team members via paging system or phones.
  • Ensures complete room set up for new admissions and orients patients/residents and family members to the facility/room.
  • Provides patient care within scope of responsibilities and documents daily care of patients per unit standards.
  • Complies with universal precautions and hospital infection control policies.
  • Valid CNA license is required.
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) certification is required.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • 1 year of recent experience in a geriatric setting or recent experience in an acute care hospital is preferred.
  • 1 year of experience as a unit clerk/secretary is preferred.
  • Experience in patient monitoring is preferred.
  • Competitive hourly pay ranging from $25.58 to $33.33.
