About The Position

The Health Unit Supervisor/Expert is responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of a local health unit under the Arkansas Department of Health. This position provides direct supervision of public health staff, oversees service delivery, manages resources, and ensures compliance with state and federal guidelines. The Health Unit Supervisor/Expert acts as the primary administrative lead for the facility, ensuring that the unit functions efficiently and effectively to meet the needs of the local community.Primary ResponsibilitiesThe assignment of supervisory duties is determined by the hiring agency's operational needs. Non-supervisory roles will serve as senior technical experts.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of public health program operations, office management, and government service delivery.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, email systems, and database tools used for reporting, scheduling, and communication.
  • Ability to interpret and apply state and federal regulations related to health services and compliance.
  • Skill in delegating responsibilities, setting priorities, and holding team members accountable for performance.
  • A bachelor’s degree in public administration, health sciences, business management, community health, or a related field, plus three (3) years of experience in a public health, administrative, or program coordination setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Frequent in-State and some out-of-state travel may be required. A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Some hours outside of normal work hours may be required for late clinics and/or weekend clinics.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily operations of the health unit, including staff scheduling, service coordination, customer service, and facility management.
  • Directly supervise and support a team that may include clerical personnel, program technicians, environmental health staff, and health professionals.
  • Oversee implementation of public health programs and services, including immunizations, WIC, family planning, infectious disease tracking, and health education.
  • Maintain compliance with ADH operational policies, procedures, and health program protocols.
  • Coordinate public health emergency response activities at the local level in collaboration with regional leadership.
  • Monitor budget allocations, supply inventories, and operational resources for the unit; ensure accountability for state and federal program funds.
  • Submit required reports, data, and evaluations to ADH central and regional offices in a timely and accurate manner.
