Care includes the management of heart failure, COPD, infections, gastrointestinal disorders, and other complex health issues, along with specialized services in cardiac/post-catheterization, renal, respiratory, vascular, diabetes, wound, and ostomy care. Two of the wings feature private rooms and blends elements of both complex care and medical-surgical environments, enabling them to meet diverse patient needs while maintaining a strong commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care. As Health Unit Coordinator (HUC), you will offer unparalleled customer service to patients, families and visitors to enhance the Cleveland Clinic experience. Using your administrative and clerical skills, you will ensure an efficient operational flow of the department, allowing your fellow caregivers to continue providing optimal patient care. A caregiver in this position works part-time evenings from 2:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. with every other weekend and 3 holidays per year requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year of experience in a customer service-related role
  • Experience with typing, computer training or equivalent coursework
  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires frequent data entry, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing and vision.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct an in-person greeting, welcome and orientation to the unit for newly admitted and transferred patients.
  • Respond to patient call lights and make rounds.
  • Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
  • Assist patients and families with wayfinding and direct them to available resources.
  • Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.
  • Assist with unit clerical functions and in trouble-shooting equipment failures, such as call system, portable phones, WOWs and other unit devices.
