About The Position

The Health Unit Coordinator coordinates and performs the receptionist role and coordinates all non-clinical functions on a clinical unit. This position is accountable to the Registered Nurse and involves effective communication with patients, visitors, and the healthcare team. The coordinator serves as the gatekeeper for physician and nursing orders into the Patient Computer System (Electronic Medical Record - EMR), coordinates scheduling of diagnostic procedures and outpatient appointments, assists with patient flow and safety, and maintains patient charts. Additionally, the coordinator operates nursing unit equipment such as the pneumatic tube system, intercom system, fax machine, computer, printer, and multi-line telephone. The role requires planning and executing a daily routine for the performance of non-clinical tasks for the Nursing Unit.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • One to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certification by The National Association of Health Unit Coordinators preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Health Unit Coordinator (Unit Secretary) experience preferred.
  • Health-related experience required.
