As a Health Unit Coordinator, you will be responsible for managing the day to day workflow on the unit to facilitate the smooth operation of the department. A successful candidate will demonstrate active listening skills for the delivery of services in a professional and friendly manner whether answering phones, relaying messages, or greeting guests. Administrative tasks include assisting with clerical function for patient admissions, transfers, and discharges; facilitation service requests, and inventory management for the unit. This is a Part-time position, variable days, with availability from 7:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m. to meet patient care needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficient computer and phone skills.
  • Knowledge of Meditech EMR system preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • One to two years' experience in health care environment preferred.
  • Basic Life Support Heartsaver (HS) level to be completed within three (3) months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the clerical function for admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Provides accurate and consistent inventory/ordering of supplies using Meditech.
  • Inventory, order, process, and monitor the delivery of supplies and equipment to the unit.
  • Assists nursing staff/units with clerical functions of intra-inter-departmental communications and other clerical activities.
  • Performs clerical duties such as answering phones, relaying messages, distributing mail, assembling admit charts, copying chart forms, scheduling procedures, inductions, surgeries to include pre-op responsibilities, within guidelines, greeting and directing visitors, checking current and upcoming shift staffing to ensure appropriate staff for scheduled procedures.
  • Serves as liaison by greeting and facilitating information to patients, families, visitors, staff and physicians.
  • Facilitates service requests to IT and maintenance to assure optimal functions: copy machine, computer and printer.
  • Assists with monthly department staff schedule and PTO requests for staff with guidelines from the leader.
  • Assists with staff edits in Kronos.
  • Ensures a safe, clean and orderly environment at the nurse's station by assisting in keeping materials organized and counters clear.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Ensures no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies.
  • Ensures self-compliance with organization policies and procedures, as well as labor agreements.
  • Ensures the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the organization's values.
  • Conducts self in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the organization.
  • Ensures that additional accountabilities, as may be required by management, be handled in a manner necessary to meet organizational standards.
