About the position

The Health Unit Coordinator or CNA performs duties as both a Health Unit Coordinator and a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). This role is responsible for providing secretarial support for all employees while also engaging in direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The position requires maintaining and updating patient records, assisting patients with daily activities, and supporting physicians and nursing staff with procedures as needed. The Health Unit Coordinator or CNA must document patient interactions and rely on established guidelines to perform job functions, working under immediate supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and updates patients' records
  • Performs various direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
  • Assists patients in dressing or undressing, bathing, or eating
  • Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens or gathers vital signs but does not start or administer intravenous fluids
  • Assists physicians and nursing staff with procedures if needed
  • Documents patient interactions as needed
  • Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
  • Works under immediate supervision
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
  • Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) required
  • 1 year of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified preferred
  • Knowledge of spelling and medical terminology preferred
  • BLS Required. Current AHA Healthcare provider, American Red Cross, AHA Health Saver or KH BLS during General Orientation
