The Kemper Cardiac Intensive Care Unit is a busy and fast-paced 14-bed Intensive Care Unit that provides 24/7 monitoring of patients suffering from heart diseases and conditions, such as chest pains, heart attacks, or life-threatening irregular heart rhythms. Caregivers in this unit work with the Department of Cardiology and the Invasive Cardiology team, participate in the Code Crimson team, respond to all in-patient rapid responses and Code Blue alarms, and regularly assists in the monitoring and care of patients receiving moderate sedation procedures, such as transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and cardioversions. As a Health Unit Coordinator on this floor, your daily responsibilities will include performing various administrative and clerical tasks to support the organization and flow of the department. A caregiver in this role works days from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with rotating weekend and holiday requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year of experience in a customer service-related role
  • Experience with typing, computer training or equivalent coursework

Nice To Haves

  • College degree
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct an in-person greeting, welcome and orientation to the unit for newly admitted and transferred patients.
  • Respond to patient call lights and make rounds.
  • Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
  • Assist patients and families with wayfinding and directing them to available resources.
  • Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.
  • Handle various computer tasks, such as updating schedules and managing patient information.
  • Assist with unit clerical functions and in trouble-shooting equipment failures, such as call system, portable phones, WOWs and other unit devices.
