Akron General’s 5400 Oncology Unit provides care to cancer patients, trains caregivers to give therapy, and provides hands-on learning to achieve chemotherapy competency. As a Health Unit Clerk in the NICU, you will provide a high level of customer service to patients, families, visitors and employees to promote and support the highest level of patient experience A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. including every other weekend rotation and 3 holidays per year requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year of experience in a customer service-related role
  • Prior job experience with typing or computer training or equivalent coursework
  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires frequent data entry, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing and vision.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform administrative and clerical duties.
  • Conduct an in-person greeting and welcome newly admitted and transferred patients to the unit.
  • Communicate with and facilitate communication between patients, families, other departments and healthcare team members regarding patient care.
  • Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
  • Provide concierge service to assist patients and families with wayfinding and directing them to available resources.
  • Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.
  • Troubleshoot equipment.
  • Respond to patient call lights.
  • Keep nursing stations clean and organized.
  • Complete mandatory education and training.
