As a Health Unit Clerk, your role supports the smooth operation of the unit by coordinating communication, schedules, and supplies. Responsibilities include communicating with the waiting room clerk, monitoring the patient board for schedule updates or add-ons, prioritizing patient charts in proper order, ordering and maintaining unit supplies, and printing daily schedules for nursing staff. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work closely with healthcare professionals, allowing you to gain valuable knowledge and experience while becoming part of a supportive team that values communication, collaboration, and delivering an exceptional patient experience. A caregiver in this position works evenings from 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year requirements. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Perform administrative and clerical duties. Conduct an in-person greeting and welcome newly admitted and transferred patients to the unit. Communicate with and facilitate communication between patients, families, other departments and healthcare team members regarding patient care. Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges. Provide concierge service to assist patients and families with wayfinding and directing them to available resources. Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care. Troubleshoot equipment. Respond to patient call lights and make rounds. Keep nursing stations clean and organized. Complete mandatory education and training.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year of experience in a customer service-related role
  • Prior job experience with typing or computer training or equivalent coursework
  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires frequent data entry, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing and vision.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.
