About The Position

The Health Unit Assistant (HUA) provides essential administrative and clerical support to ensure smooth operations within a healthcare unit. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The HUA serves as a central point of contact for staff, patients, families, and other departments, assisting with administrative functions, patient flow, and assisting with unit activities. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical terminology needed.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English.
  • 40 wpm typing.
  • Personable with good phone etiquette.
  • Must be able to transport patients by wheelchair or stretcher.

Nice To Haves

  • UNIT CLERK EXPERIENCE, OR EXPERIENCE IN A MEDICAL OFFICE SETTING PREFERRED.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritizes dissemination of information using available technology.
  • Assists with maintaining readiness of patient care equipment.
  • Effectively and accurately maintains patient records.
  • Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.
  • Balances team and individual responsibilities; open and objective to other’s views; gives them welcome feedback; contributes to positive team goals; and puts the success of the team above own interests.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.
  • Manages supplies and patient care supplies i.e., order, obtain and store supplies.
  • Stocks bedside carts and alcoves.
  • Washes various types of beds used in NICU (warmers, incubators, cribs).
