About The Position

The position involves collecting and processing clinical laboratory specimens to ensure public safety and support the reentry of individuals into communities. The role is critical in maintaining the security of the correctional institution while performing laboratory-related tasks, including specimen collection and processing.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Specialized experience in support duties to medical or health personnel, such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service.
  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in instructing patients on proper specimen collection techniques.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Collect clinical laboratory specimens (human blood) for testing requested by a clinician.
  • Instruct patients on proper collection of specimens such as stool and urine for laboratory analysis.
  • Process and transport specimens, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and mixing.
  • Assist laboratory staff with ordering entry into a computerized laboratory information system and preparing laboratory-related paperwork.
  • Maintain security of the institution as part of correctional responsibilities.
