About The Position

Horizon Services, Inc. (HSI) is a nonprofit established in 1974 that offers addiction treatment with the goal of reducing substance use and mental health related challenges for people from all walks of life, including those from some of the most disenfranchised and marginalized communities. This position plays a vital supportive role to Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) by performing a range of clinical duties. Responsibilities include comprehensive vital sign monitoring (blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate), conducting medical assessments, and evaluating individuals for intoxication levels and detoxification risks. The role also involves administering breathalyzer tests, screening for physical injuries and medical complaints, assessing levels of consciousness and behavior, and performing brief psychiatric needs screenings. Additionally, the EMT will perform delegated wound care tasks and administer the Withdrawal Assessment tools as a backup to nurse coordinators.

Requirements

  • Certified Emergency Medical Technician EMT with the State of New Mexico
  • Years of Experience as an EMT. (HT I) 0-1 year☐, (HT II) 1-2 years☐, (HT III) 2-3 years☐
  • Basic academic knowledge and understanding of Substance Use Disorders and Mental Health
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certified.
  • Must have a NM driver’s license and good driving record in good standing
  • For bilingual bonus, must be fluent in at least one of New Mexico threshold languages (Vietnamese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Dari, Arabic, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, and Diné (Navajo)
  • Demonstrated Strong computer skills, data input and monitoring.
  • Demonstrated confidence working with EHR systems
  • Safeguard EHR privacy and confidentiality.
  • Experience with working with SUD and or MH clients in a residential setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain emotionally stable when faced with hostility or aggression.
  • Ability to time manage and prioritize.
  • Able to deliver quality care to diverse populations, cultures and clients with co-occurring disorders in a supportive manner.

Responsibilities

  • Play a supportive role to LVNs on shift.
  • Engage in vital sign monitoring.
  • Conduct medical assessments in the absence of an LVN.
  • Evaluate individuals for intoxication level and risk for detoxification symptoms.
  • Check blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate.
  • Ask about bruising, hematoma, or rash.
  • Palpate trunk and extremities for bone deformities.
  • Administer breathalyzer tests.
  • Inquire about cough, chest pain, or other medical complaints.
  • Evaluate and record level of consciousness and visible behavior.
  • Briefly screen individuals for psychiatric needs.
  • Perform wound care tasks as delegated.
  • Administer Withdrawal assessment tools as back-up to LVNs.
