About The Position

The position involves counseling military personnel from all branches of the uniformed services, retirees, and families being processed through the Army Physical Disability Evaluation System (APDES). The role includes assisting in referring Soldier's case appeals for impartial medical reviews, rebuttals, and coordinating the assignment of Soldier Medical Evaluation Counselor (SMEBC) services. Additionally, the position requires referring personnel to appropriate agencies for counseling and guidance on benefits provided by the Department of Labor, Social Security Administration, and Veterans Affairs (VA). Training installation leadership on issues relevant to APDES, serving as a liaison between service members and a multi-disciplinary medical team, and obtaining and forwarding required documents for service members to various stakeholders are also key responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination based on a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility must be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk.
  • Selectees must sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required, including Hepatitis B for positions with direct patient contact.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete the PEBLO distance learning and resident courses within 180 days of assignment.
  • Recertification is required annually.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience advising personnel in all phases of a medical disability evaluation process.
  • Experience coordinating appointments or reviewing medical records for completeness.
  • Experience preparing statistical reports.
