About The Position

This position performs a variety of clerical and health support functions in the Special Supplemental Nutrition for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program at the Florida Department of Health in Lake County. Work includes taking weight and height measurements of WIC clients and performing hematological tests necessary for WIC certification. Work includes performing varied clerical and health support duties that require independent judgement based upon information found in the DHM 150-24 Policy and Procedure Manual for the Special Supplemental Nutrition for Women, Infants and Children program and the FL-WiSE (the WIC database system) Clinic Manual, FL-WiSE Training Manual and Modules, including WiSE Notes, FL-WiSE Help Sheets and WiSE Hints. Performs hematological tests necessary for WIC certification. Accurately enters hematological data into FL-WiSE (WIC database system). Maintains documentation of calibration of hematological equipment. Maintains a log of hematological equipment. Maintains a log of hematological testing on WIC participants. Maintains equipment as necessary. Order supplies on a monthly basis. Follows Biomedical Waste Operating Plan for the Florida Department of Health in Lake County. Performs weight and height measurements for WIC clients, using the correct anthropometric techniques. Accurately enters anthropometric data into FL-WiSE (WIC database system). Responsible for calibrating all equipment used for weighing and measuring WIC participants following policies and procedures outlined in DHM 150-24 and the FL-WiSE Clinic Manual, including WiSE Notes, FL-WiSE Training Modules, FL-WiSE Help Sheets and WiSE Hints. Interviews and screens clients for WIC program eligibility. Communicates administrative and clerical policies and procedures to clients. Instructs WIC clients interactively in basic nutrition principles found in the WIC Nutrition Education Kit. Issues WIC benefits to program participants. Assists nutrition staff with nutrition questionnaires by accurately entering data from the questionnaires into FL-WiSE. Operates computers, printers, photocopying machines, fax machines, calculators and related equipment with such accuracy as can be acquired on the job. Type's correspondence, memoranda, reports, forms and other documents from rough drafts, notes or oral instructions. Organizes and maintains WIC records, filing systems and inventories of EBT cards, medical supplies, WIC materials, office supplies, special formula and WIC VOC/NE cards. Prepares statements and inventory reports. Performs varied clerical duties that require independent judgement based upon information found in the DHM 150-24 Policy and Procedure Manual for the Special Supplemental Nutrition for Women, Infants and Children program and the FL-WiSE (WIC database system) Clinic Manual, FL-WiSE Training Manual and Modules, including WiSE Notes, FL-WiSE Help Sheets and WiSE Hints. Performs end-of-the-month closeout by calling clients listed on the non-participation report and sending reminder notices as necessary. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the current science and practice of food and nutrition, dietetics or food service.
  • Knowledge of normal nutrition principles and food needs throughout the lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of meal planning, food budgeting and purchasing.
  • Ability to provide nutrition education to others in groups or individual instruction.
  • Ability to determine nutritional needs and develop nutrition education plans for individuals who are high risk.
  • Ability to educate individuals and families about food and nutritional needs.
  • Ability to participate in education or in-service training programs through teaching classes.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office computer software.
  • Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. This may include working in a special needs or Red Cross shelter, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
  • Willing to travel to different WIC sites in Lake County
  • This position is a full-time, in-office position. Willing to physically come in the office to perform the duties & responsibilities of the positions.
