This is a specialized Health Support Specialist position in the Florida Department of Health in Broward County WIC Program. The caseload consists of pregnant and postpartum women, infants and children up to the age of five. Work requires independent judgment and decision making and must follow federally regulated procedures. Work is performed in the WIC clinic under the supervision of the Nutrition Educator. Incumbent in this position may be asked to travel to several clinic locations. The incumbent is expected to communicate (by phone, e-mail, or in person) in a courteous and professional manner at all times. This position is designated as a sensitive position and the position is required to maintain confidential information in accordance with the Florida Department of Health in Broward County Information Security policies, protocols and procedures. Performs anthropometric measurements according to DOH, BCHD policies, procedures and protocols and DHM 150-2. Operates all anthropometric equipment essential to required duties. Calibrates, cleans and maintains scales and length and height boards. Maintains calibration logs. Weighs and measures clients, using age appropriate equipment and procedures based on standardized practice and Center for Disease Control Guidelines. Records anthropometric data in the WIC computer system. Performs hemoglobin/hematocrit tests according to DOH, CLIA regulations and DHM 150-24. Disposes of blood contaminated materials in compliance with OSHA regulations. Performs hemoglobin/hematocrit testing according to procedures and guidelines of equipment being used. Calibrates, cleans and sanitized blood collection equipment and collection area. Records hemoglobin/hematocrit results in the WIC data system. Maintains any logs and reports determined to be necessary for this job function. Maintains supplies and equipment for use in testing. Fills in for Senior Clerk and performs Client Check-in responsibilities. Determines WIC income eligibility status Obtains required demographic data Completes nutrition questionnaires and issues benefits Reviews immunization status. Screens for immunization status. Documents status according to established WIC procedures. Provides low risk nutrition education to clients. Performs other duties as required. Attends trainings and staff meetings. Completes leave, attendance, EARs and other reports as required and according to established procedures.
