Spanish Speaking Required Position is 204 working days and 11 paid Holidays; a typical work week Monday - Friday with an expectation of no more than 40 hours per week. For weeks with less than five working days, daily hours only apply. Requires use of own vehicle to conduct business. Part-time summer work may be available and may be required depending on agency needs for full time staff and is a requirement for part-time staff with a beginning employment date of July 15, 2013 or later. This position is not eligible for telecommuting as it is front-line work in nature working face-to-face with families and/or children, as well as center- based supporting classroom and center operations. POSITION SUMMARY: This position will service children in the Heber, Pleasant Grove, and Orem area. Health Specialists at ELE have the unique opportunity to combine expertise in healthcare and health education with a passion for working with children and families. As a Health Specialist, you will: Assist the Health & Nutrition Services Director and service area Coordinators in providing comprehensive health and nutrition services to enrolled children. Carry out all health care and screening services for the children enrolled in the Head Start Program in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards and indicators outlined in the 2007 Improving Head Start for School Readiness Act. Monitor and follows up on health & nutrition services for Head Start children to support their school readiness and the agency's school readiness plan. Maintain a working relationship with other health care professionals in the community. Work collaboratively with Family Advocates to assist families in establishing and maintaining medical and dental homes. Provide health & nutrition education for Head Start families and staff.

Requirements

  • Must have one or more of the following: a Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Nursing, Health Education, Health Promotion, or related field.
  • Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
  • And One year relevant experience in Health Education or Health Services related field providing health services for low-income clientele or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking is required
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and to develop solutions to problems with limited supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Use a computer to collect, record, and retrieve data and prepare reports.
  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and administer activities.
  • Read, understand and interpret health records and plan appropriate courses of action.
  • Ability to plan, formulate and execute record keeping procedures in accordance with assigned duties.
  • Knowledge of preventive medicine and sanitation .
  • Ability to prioritize and manage work load and meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to write and speak the English language in a proficient and professional manner to meet requirements of the job.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, families, community groups, and other related agencies and people.
