About The Position

The Health Services Representative position at the Florida Department of Health involves working on-site at various facilities throughout Broward County. This role is focused on the Communicable Disease Prevention-STD Program and is an internal agency opportunity, meaning only current Department of Health employees can apply. The representative will be responsible for receiving and processing reports of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) from healthcare providers and laboratories, entering health data into the Patient Reporting Surveillance Manager (STARS) Database, and interacting with external health care providers to gather additional health information for case management. The position requires timely entry of STD records into the STARS Database, verification of patient history and treatment through medical records, and acting as a liaison between the STD Program and other health department programs. The representative will also attend staff meetings and complete necessary administrative tasks.

Requirements

  • Current employee of Florida Department of Health.
  • Experience working in the STD or HIV field.
  • Valid driver's license with no major infractions.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.
  • Willingness to participate in STD community outreach.
  • Intermediate level computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of one year of experience working in the STD or HIV field.
  • Associate degree or Bachelor's degree in Public Health or a related field.
  • One year of experience with interviewing, counseling, case management, or public health.

Responsibilities

  • Receive incoming reports of STIs from healthcare providers and laboratories.
  • Process reports by entering health data into the STARS Database.
  • Interact with external healthcare providers and laboratories to obtain additional health information.
  • Ensure all STD records are entered in a timely manner into the STARS Database.
  • File and review medical records and Field Records to verify patient history and treatment.
  • Act as a liaison between the STD Program and other County Health Department Disease Control Programs.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and staff development activities.
  • Complete leave requests and attendance records.
