About The Position

The Health Sciences Simulation Director provides strategic and operational leadership for the Health Sciences Interdisciplinary Simulation and Nursing and Simulation Center. The Director collaborates with Nursing and Health Sciences programs to plan, design, and evaluate high-quality simulation experiences that support course objectives, program outcomes, and regulatory standards. This role ensures that the Lab and Simulation Center operate in accordance with best practices established by the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) and the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH), as well as requirements set by discipline-specific accrediting and regulatory bodies, including the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Allied Health or Nursing from an accredited college.
  • Current, unrestricted license in a health discipline (e.g., RN, RRT).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in simulation-based education or simulation operations.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience with patient care equipment commonly used in nursing and allied health instruction.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with faculty, staff, and students across multiple disciplines.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Allied Health, Health Sciences, Health Education or related field.
  • Certification as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS), or willingness to obtain within two (2) years of hire.
  • Instructor certification in BLS, ACLS, or PALS.
  • Experience managing simulation center operations, staff and scheduling systems.
  • Familiarity with simulation software, audiovisual debriefing tools, and virtual simulation platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the simulation leader for the ADN, PN, and LPN-RN programs, ensuring simulations reflect current clinical standards and North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON) requirements.
  • Collaborate with Nursing faculty to design simulation scenarios that support student learning outcomes and clinical reasoning development.
  • Support simulation-based remediation and open lab hours for Nursing students, based on performance data and instructor referrals.
  • Align simulation programming with curriculum, evaluation criteria, and licensure preparation.
  • Participate in Nursing department meetings to ensure simulation strategies support course and program needs.
  • Serve as the simulation leader for all Health Sciences programs, including Radiography, Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacy Technology, Physical Therapist Assistant, and others.
  • Collaborate with Health Sciences faculty to design simulation experiences that reinforce program-specific competencies, accreditation standards, and clinical expectations.
  • Plan and facilitate interdisciplinary simulations that emphasize collaborative, team-based care and effective communication across professions.
  • Support the integration of simulation into Health Sciences curricula, ensuring alignment with course outcomes and accreditation benchmarks.
  • Maintain a balanced scheduling model that prioritizes Nursing's instructional volume while supporting equitable access for all Health Sciences departments.
  • Serve as a liaison across Health Sciences programs to ensure simulation goals are consistent and aligned with institutional priorities.
  • Oversee the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of high-fidelity simulators, virtual platforms, audiovisual systems, and task trainers.
  • Maintain simulation inventory and supplies, coordinate repair, replacement, and upgrades in collaboration with vendors and IT.
  • Monitor and manage the Simulation Center's budget and procurement of instructional equipment.
  • Ensure lab environments meet all safety, privacy, and compliance requirements for simulation-based instruction.
  • Coordinate onboarding and technical support for faculty using simulation equipment and software.
  • Supervise simulation staff, student workers, and standardized patients (SPs), including hiring, scheduling, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Conduct onboarding for new staff and provide ongoing professional development.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for simulation operations and user expectations.
  • Coordinate simulation schedules to support course delivery, OSCEs, credentialing reviews, and student competency assessments.
  • Incorporate INACSL, SSH, and other simulation standards into daily operations and long-term planning.
  • Participate in grant-related activities and research related to simulation-based education.
  • Network with local, state, and national simulation leaders to remain current with evolving trends and practices.
  • Support public engagement through Simulation Center tours, collaborative events, and outreach efforts.
