The Facilities Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing programs that ensure a safe, compliant, and healthy workplace. This role oversees facility-related safety policies, risk assessments, emergency preparedness, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with organizational standards. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail‑oriented, and skilled in influencing cross‑functional teams to strengthen safety culture.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Facilities Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of experience in workplace safety, facilities safety, or EHS leadership.
Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, environmental regulations, and building safety codes.
Experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and training programs.
Excellent communication, influencing, and problem-solving skills.
Computer literacy including Microsoft Excel and Power point.

Nice To Haves

Professional certifications (e.g., CSP, ASP, CHMM, CFM).
Experience with ISO 45001 or similar safety management systems.
Background in manufacturing, warehousing, or multi-site facility operations.
Ability to work to a deadline and strong organizational skills.
Ability to influence others through the employment of sound judgment.
Self-motivation, strong attention to detail, and accuracy.
Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.

Responsibilities

Health & Safety Leadership Lead the development and deployment of safety strategies, programs, and initiatives across local facilities.
Promote a strong safety culture through training, coaching, communication, and employee engagement.
Serve as the primary advisor on facility-related safety matters for leadership and site teams.
Responsible for facilities maintenance actions related to outside contractor coordination, annual contracts, scheduling and executing of facility improvements; This responsibility will be interior and exterior of RHA’s Mason East facility and the exterior of RHA’s Mason West facility.
Regulatory Compliance Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, environmental, and building regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, NFPA, local fire codes).
Maintain required safety documentation, permits, and regulatory filings.
Liaise with NA Compliance leader to support regulatory agencies and manage external inspections or audits.
Ownership of Workers Compensation investigations, safety risk assessments, corrective actions, continuous improvement plans and time off impact in collaboration with HR and Operations Management.
Risk Management & Prevention Conduct routine facility safety inspections, hazard assessments, and job safety analyses.
Oversee incident investigations with cross-functional team, root-cause analysis, corrective action planning, and follow-up execution.
Implement effective risk mitigation strategies—including lockout/tagout, hazardous materials management, ergonomics, and contractor safety programs.
Emergency Preparedness Develop and maintain emergency action plans, evacuation procedures, and crisis response protocols.
Coordinate drills (fire, severe weather, workplace violence response, etc.) and collaborate with security and emergency services.
Ensure facility systems (alarms, sprinklers, safety equipment) are functional and regularly tested.
Training & Continuous Improvement Deliver or coordinate safety training for employees, contractors, and visitors.
Track safety metrics and use data to drive continuous improvement.
Lead or participate in cross-functional safety committees and improvement projects.
