The Health & Safety and Training Specialist position will develop and drive the overall safety culture at a brand new 300,000 sq foot distribution center in Caledonia, WI. The Health, Safety and Training Specialist leads safety and operational training initiatives, manages health and safety programs, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to maintain a safe, compliant, and well-trained workforce. It involves evaluating workplace risks, overseeing incident investigations, and reporting systems, and conducting required training and certifications. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with OSHA, state, and local regulations while fostering a proactive safety culture across the facility. How You Will Make Contributions That Matter…

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in occupational Health & Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene or in a related field, and/or the equivalent experience.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a warehouse or distribution environment; experience in the food industry preferred.
  • OSHA 30-Hour certification, or ability to obtain within 12-months of hire.
  • American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certified or ability to obtain within 12-months of hire; AMR Instructor certification preferred.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and Workers’ Compensation claim mitigation and management.
  • Direct experience in successfully leading, coaching, motivating, and developing a team environment within safety; strong communication skills, customer service skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to create training content and facilitate training.
  • Supports Divisional Human Organizational Performance (HOP) philosophy by aiding in learning teams and HOP philosophy coaching.
  • Proven leadership (Team Leading) abilities to be able to influence positive behavior and drive programs and initiatives.
  • Self-driven initiative to identify areas of opportunity to mitigate risks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Dependable, self-motivated and team oriented with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines in a multi-task, fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work all shifts as needed.
  • Position requires up to 10% travel, ground and/or air transportation.
  • Onboarding process will require travel to sites with less travel over time.

Nice To Haves

  • American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certified or ability to obtain within 12-months of hire; AMR Instructor certification preferred.
  • Process Safety Management experience preferred.
  • Alchemy experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Supports OSHA compliance, state, and local regulatory compliance by serving as the site expert and providing management updates on current and future laws and regulations.
  • Promotes a safety-minded culture by proactively leading safety training initiatives, including Job Safety Analysis.
  • Executes health and safety programs including Emergency Response, forklift certification, ergonomics, safety audits, crisis management and accident investigations.
  • Conducts and/or facilitates safety programs and OSHA required training and certifications, including forklift operation, confined space, lockout/tagout, CPR/First Aid, and fire drills.
  • Collaborates on the management of safety reporting system and Incident Investigation Reports to ensure completeness and that appropriate action is taken to prevent recurrence.
  • Reviews, evaluates, and analyzes work environment, including near miss incidents, with emphasis on preventative actions.
  • Oversee PPE needs for the facility, ensuring proper on-hand inventory, training, and application.
  • Develops, maintains, and communicates annual training requirements for all training including scheduling of the training, facilitation and tracking of training completion.
  • Ensures ongoing review of the environment, facility changes or reconfigurations, customer requirements and develops appropriate tools or site-specific training materials.
  • Collaborates with department leaders and human resources on facilitation of New Hire Training and Employee Onboarding process to include classroom and hands on training.
  • Lead general training efforts on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring employees understand and follow operational protocols.
  • Maintains accurate training records and regularly creates and distributes reports to departments and plant management.
  • Assists in maintaining compliance with all company policies and procedures, as well as ensuring operational training /certification programs are administered in accordance with company policies and procedures.
