About The Position

The Health & Safety Manager provides leadership and strategic oversight for site safety, industrial hygiene, and occupational health programs within a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving programs designed to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses while ensuring compliance with applicable OSHA, state, and corporate standards. The Health & Safety Manager leads a multidisciplinary team consisting of Safety Specialists, Occupational Health Specialists, and Occupational Health Nursing staff. The role serves as the primary site authority for safety and occupational health management systems, regulatory compliance, government inspections, and ISO-based management system integration. This position partners closely with operations, engineering, maintenance, HR, and executive leadership to drive risk reduction, strengthen safety culture, and ensure safe and compliant facility operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Engineering, Public Health, or related field required.
  • 7-10+ years of safety, industrial hygiene, or occupational health experience within manufacturing or highly regulated industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing safety or occupational health programs.
  • Experience leading regulatory inspections and compliance programs.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and occupational health standards.
  • Experience leading safety management systems and compliance programs.
  • Ability to analyze technical safety data, incident reports, and exposure monitoring results.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
  • Ability to influence operational leadership and drive safety culture improvements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • MS Office Suite proficiency.
  • Strong organizational and strategic problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support production operations.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to properly and regularly utilize the following PPE for a period of up to 12 hours: Safety glasses Steel-toed shoes Nitrile gloves Ear protection Cleanroom suit
  • Must be able to perform the following activities repeatedly for periods of up to 12 hours: Lift, push, and pull materials or equipment Stoop, twist, and bend Reach overhead Sit and/or stand for extended periods Use hands and fingers to operate tools, equipment, and computer systems
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, or other relevant safety or industrial hygiene credentials strongly preferred.
  • Experience implementing or managing ISO-based management systems preferred.
  • Experience supervising safety or health professionals preferred.
  • May be required to respond to after-hours operational issues or emergency events in support of facility infrastructure, utilities systems, or safe plant operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight of site safety, industrial hygiene, and occupational health programs.
  • Develop and implement safety and occupational health strategies aligned with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure effective implementation of hazard prevention programs addressing chemical, mechanical, electrical, ergonomic, and process-related risks.
  • Establish systems to identify, evaluate, and control workplace hazards across production and administrative areas.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen safety performance and reduce occupational health risks.
  • Ensure site compliance with OSHA regulations and applicable federal, state, and local health and safety requirements.
  • Serve as the primary site liaison for regulatory agencies including OSHA, state occupational safety agencies, and other governmental authorities.
  • Lead regulatory inspections, audits, and agency response activities.
  • Ensure required regulatory documentation, reporting, and compliance records are maintained.
  • Provide oversight of OSHA recordkeeping processes including injury and illness reporting requirements.
  • Lead implementation and maintenance of safety and occupational health components within ISO management systems including ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 where applicable.
  • Ensure internal audits, management reviews, and corrective actions are effectively implemented.
  • Support integration of safety and occupational health management systems with operational processes.
  • Provide leadership and direction for Safety Specialists, Occupational Health Specialists, and Occupational Health Nursing staff.
  • Establish performance expectations, development plans, and coaching to support team growth.
  • Ensure clear role responsibilities and accountability across safety, industrial hygiene, and occupational health functions.
  • Foster collaboration between EHS personnel, operations leadership, engineering teams, and employees.
  • Oversee investigation of workplace incidents including injuries, near misses, chemical exposures, and occupational illnesses.
  • Ensure root cause analysis is conducted and effective corrective actions are implemented.
  • Monitor safety performance trends including IRR, LTIR, near-miss reporting, and other safety metrics.
  • Identify systemic risk factors and implement proactive mitigation strategies.
  • Partner with engineering and operations during equipment installation, facility modifications, and process changes to ensure safety and occupational health risks are addressed.
  • Support contractor safety programs and ensure compliance with company safety requirements.
  • Ensure safety considerations are incorporated into operational planning and decision-making.
  • Support emergency response planning, drills, and incident preparedness activities.
  • Provide leadership during emergency events involving chemical releases, occupational exposures, or safety-related incidents.
  • Coordinate post-incident investigations and documentation as required.
  • Develop and monitor safety and occupational health KPIs.
  • Provide safety performance updates and risk assessments to site leadership.
  • Support implementation of corrective actions resulting from audits, inspections, or internal reviews.
  • This position supports essential manufacturing operations and may require working day or night shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and reporting to work during emergency situations, inclement weather events, or other operational disruptions when it is safe to do so.
